The Spotlight Effect

If I ever feel anxious, embarrassed, or worried about something I did, I try to remember the Spotlight Effect.

The Spotlight Effect is a cognitive bias that causes us to overestimate how much others are noticing us. In reality, most people are too busy thinking about themselves to pay much attention to what we’re doing.

Remembering this can be a powerful thinking tool. It helps me quickly process how I'm feeling and feel better.

When was the last time you found yourself under an imaginary spotlight?
